One of the best ways to show off your wax creations, be it molded, jar, or dipped candles, is through clever packaging. This can be done through paperboard boxes, cylinders, slip covers, or even clear acetate boxes. No matter what type of packaging you select, make sure they are shipped to you well protected because a simple edge protector might not be as good as jumbo edge protectors when it comes to protecting you investment in custom packaging solutions.

When it comes to displaying a message, nothing beats the beauty of paperboard.  It can be richly colored, embossed, foiled, done glossy or matte.  No matter what the feeling is you want your product to evoke, from handmade goodness to environmental purity, using paperboard boxes, cylinders, slip covers, or candle lids can vividly provide it. Often times custom printers of paperboard containers will help you design the perfect box in one of several thicknesses. The often have templates to help you see where on the design each type of thing should go, like your emblem/logo, the product description, and any graphics you desire.

The down side of paper is that it is opaque and unless you have windows cut in the box to show your item little of it can be directly experienced by the customer.  Adding a window, however, can expose the product to light and air – weakening the fragrance or providing less protection to the wax itself.  Adding a plastic film can help some, but if you need to have a clear window to show off the product then perhaps a acetate box is better then paper.

Acetate packaging comes in both box and tube form.  Often times these packages are clear, although for special functions they may be made from a marbled, frosted, or smoky looking plastic.  They are sturdy enough to be reused as trinket boxes an come in two pieces.  When combined with a paper insert, these packages provide superior protection from exposure and damage while allowing the consumer to see exactly what they are buying. These boxes work great for tealights, votives, tarts, simmers, and floaters and can be bought for sets of 2 to 12 units. Tealight and other candle types like tapers can often be sold in tubes too.

While using tubes, in either paperboard or acetate would eliminate the need for edge protector spacers inside the container, you might find you still need jumbo edge protectors when it comes time to ship your candles out to buyers.  While these types of things will not actually sell your product like custom packaging solutions can, they do solve the problems caused by damages in shipping. The superior protection comes from the package shape which makes it stronger and more durable. However, taking the time to properly package boxes and use the correct spacers inside to cushion your candles inside them does give a visually pleasing impact that a tube lacks. Remember you have only a glance to make a good impression, so pick the best packaging you can afford for a professional look that inspires confidence.
